GUIDE: Skin care and protection for outdoor activities

Zaštita i njega kože za aktivnosti na otvorenom

The time for cycling, running, and hiking has arrived, and with it, the time to remind yourself how to properly take care of the health and beauty of your skin while you're out and about. Read practical tips and product recommendations that will make it easier for you.

Protect yourself from the sun, even if there is no sun

UV radiation is present all the time and in all months, but it gets stronger with the arrival of spring and summer. It is well known that the sun's rays easily penetrate through the clouds, which means that a worse forecast and gloomy weather will by no means protect you from the dangers of the UV spectrum . Only good old products with complete UV-A and UV-B protective filters can help you. Although it is a generally accepted opinion that you can protect the entire surface of the skin with one body milk, this is not entirely true. If you pedal briskly, walk briskly or spend a day on the mountain without shelter, you will most certainly sweat a fair amount. This is where your protection falls into the water, regardless of how abundantly you have applied it.

Depending on the texture of the product you like, choose milk or oil to protect the skin of your hands and feet, and apply a cream designed specifically for that area on your face. This will also reduce the possibility of pimples or clogged pores appearing on your skin. Of course, the application of protective products should be repeated (as a rule) every 2 hours , and so on until the sun sets. Although this meant that you would leave decorative cosmetics, especially powder, aside that day. Skin health is still a priority!

Focus on the ears, scalp and neck

If at least once it happened to you that you prepared yourself, your wife, your children for a stay in the sun, and then returned home with red ears, you must have learned your lesson. And if this scenario hasn't happened to you yet, it doesn't mean it won't - maybe even next weekend. Keep in mind that the ears, the back of the neck, the scalp and the head (with short hair) should also be thoroughly coated with protective products. There is also the nose, which is very often the first to suffer under the merciless rays of the sun (and despite the visor!). For the most exposed, sensitive parts of the body, it is good to have practical and even richer protection at hand. A good solution is a sun protection stick that you can store in every pocket and apply wherever and whenever you need in two or three strokes. The advantage of the stick is its denser texture, which stays on the skin longer , and at the same time richly nourishes and cares for it.

Choose your number

From 10 to 50 - that's how, in most cases, the range of available protective factors ranges. How and which one to choose? In fact, the SPF number represents the level of protection of the skin against UV-B rays , so the first selection criterion, as we mentioned, is complete protection that also takes into account UV-A radiation. In addition, it is good to think about the age of the person for whom the protection is intended, the conditions in which they will stay and the skin itself. If your skin is resistant to the sun and darkens quickly, and you don't plan to be outdoors for long, factor 20 or 30 is enough. More serious protection with factor 50 is needed for people with pale, sensitive skin and, of course, children.

Continue protection with care at home

Regardless of how consistently you follow the needs of your skin and protect it from the sun, it is still exposed to external influences and a certain amount of stress. A few liters of clean drinking water during the day will do the trick, but you should show your face and body some love as soon as you return from nature to the comfort of your bathroom. To begin with, clean it well. Choose harmless and non-drying products without strong surfactants, parabens and artificial dyes. Pay special attention to the face and the upper part of the back and neck , in order to free the pores from accumulated sebum and the remains of cream, milk or oil with a protective factor.

The next step is, you guessed it, hydration. The serum with hyaluronic acid and resveratrol is ideal for application before going to bed because it is absorbed extremely quickly, which is why you won't have to wait long to apply your favorite nourishing cream. Why hyaluronan and resveratrol? Hyaluronic acid will give that phenomenal "fullness" characteristic of young skin, while resveratrol will reduce the impact of environmental stressors, calm redness and, while you sleep, diligently stimulate natural skin renewal.
